About Shepherd'S Pie
Shepherd's Pie is a beloved English one-pot classic, traditionally crafted with minced lamb, hearty vegetables, and a golden mashed potato crust. This homestyle favorite is the epitome of comfort food, perfect for any meal from brunch to dinner.
In my healthy twist on this classic, I use tender chicken along with carrots, mushrooms, and broccoli for a nourishing fill. The highlight is a homemade Worcestershire sauce—simple to whip up with soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, and mustard powder—that brings a depth of flavor without the extra fat. With only a tablespoon of butter and cheese each, this lighter version is still irresistibly finger-licking good!

Recipe Notes
I used the entire Worcestorshire sauce in this recipe which was around 2 tablespoon. You can use it as per your requirement.
Grating the boiled potatoes makes it easy to mash.
You can use egg or milk for making potato mash. Use the milk as required.
Adjust the time and temperature as per your oven.
Keep a check on the amount of salt you are using.
Additional Tips
- For an extra creamy mashed potato topping without adding much fat, mix in a little Greek yogurt or low-fat cream cheese when mashing the potatoes, which also adds a tangy depth that complements the homemade Worcestershire sauce.
- If you prefer a vegetarian version, swap the chicken for lentils or finely chopped mushrooms and add a few dashes of smoked paprika for a satisfying, umami-rich base.
- To achieve a beautifully golden and slightly crispy potato crust, rough up the surface of the mashed potatoes with a fork before baking, then broil for the last 3-5 minutes while keeping a close eye on it.
- Leftovers can be portioned into individual ramekins before baking, making them perfect for meal prep or serving as personal-sized pies at brunch gatherings.
