Malvani Fish Fry

Very few things come close to being as delicious and comforting as fried fish. A simple masala flavours the fish brilliantly and the rice flour coating makes it crisp when after fried. A crunchy golden brown exterior and soft flavourful fish inside – this Malvani fish fry is a perfect starter. Along with some varan bhaat it makes great main course too!

Ingredients
- Surmai king fish cut into 2 inch pieces 1 large
- Rice flour 1/2 cup
- Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
- Red chilli powder 2- 3 teaspoons
- Lemon 1/2
- Oil 2 tablespoons
- Garlic paste 1 tablespoons
- Ginger paste 1 tablespoons
- Salt
- Lemon 1 slice

Instructions
- Sprinkle salt, turmeric powder, 1 tsp red chilli powder on the fish pieces. Sprinkle juice of ½ lemon and rub in well. Set aside to marinate for 15 minutes. Heat 2 tbsps oil in a non stick pan.
- Mix garlic paste, ginger paste 2 tsps red chilli powder and salt in a bowl. Apply this masala generously over the fish pieces. Roll them in rice flour and shake off excess flour.
- Place the fish pieces in the pan and shallow fry till the undersides are golden.
- Flip them over and shallow fry till the other side is equally golden. Drain on absorbent paper. Serve hot garnished with a lemon slice.
