Mackerel Fish Fry

Easy and quick fish fry recipe which serves as a great starter. Mackerel Fish is marinated in basic masala and spices for couple of hours and deep fried. Crisp from outside and soft inside.

  • Mackerel Fish - 4 big whole Fish
  • Ginger - 1 inch
  • Garlic - 6 cloves
  • Peppercorns - 1 tsp cracked or use pepper powder
  • Coriander powder - ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
  • Salt
  • Lemon Juice - 1 tsp
  • Oil for deep frying


  • Take the fish and make slashes all over. Keep aside In a mixing bowl.
  • Ground the ginger and garlic and extract the juice of it. We will be using only the juice.
  • In a small bowl take all the ingredients except oil in a mixing bowl and mix well by adding few drops of water.
  • Rub this mixture all over the fish and in the slashes too. Keep this to marinate for atleast 30 mins. I kept for 2 hours.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan. Add the fishes in batches and deep fry then on all sides till golden and crisp from outside.
  • Drain and serve with onions, slit Green chillies and lemon slices.
