Instructions

Prepare the Pie Crust

  • Make a pie dough using the flour, salt, butter, and ice water. If using store-bought, proceed to the next step. Divide the dough into 4-5 equal portions, roll into balls, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Prepare the Nut Mixture

  • Coarsely chop the walnuts, cashews, and almonds. In a bowl, combine the chopped nuts, rolled oats, crushed cornflakes, brown sugar, and softened butter. Mix well.

Assemble and Bake

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a tart pan or muffin tin. Roll out the pie dough balls and place them into the prepared tart pan. Bake for 6-8 minutes, or until lightly golden.

Fill and Bake Again

  • Remove from the oven. Fill each crust with the nut mixture. Return to the oven and bake for another 3-5 minutes.

Prepare the “Blood” Glaze

  • In a small bowl, combine the mixed fruit jam and milk. Whisk until smooth and slightly thickened. This will take about 5 minutes.

Decorate and Serve

  • Let the nut monsters cool completely. Decorate using black raisins for eyes, halved cherries for mouths, and drizzle the jam glaze over the top to resemble blood. Add optional paper bats using toothpicks. Serve and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips for Spooky Success:

  • For extra flavor, toast the nuts before chopping.
  • If you don't have mixed fruit jam, use a different type of jam or even melted chocolate.
  • Get creative with decorations! Use candy melts, sprinkles, or other Halloween-themed candies.
  • Make these ahead of time! They store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
