Ingredients
For the Brownies
- 140 gm Butter unsalted
- 1 cup Sugar
- ¾ cup Cocoa Powder
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2 Large Eggs
- ½ cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- ½ cup Yogurt
- ½ cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
For the Coating and Decoration
- 1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
- ¼ cup Chocolate Chips white
- 10 Candy Gems green
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease and flour an 8x8 inch baking pan.
- Melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan. Transfer to a mixing bowl and whisk in the sugar and cocoa powder until combined.
- Whisk in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, folding gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Fold in the yogurt and chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 28-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached. Overbaking will result in dry brownies.
- Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting.
- Once cooled, crumble the brownies into small pieces. Roll the crumbs into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a double boiler or microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Dip each brownie ball into the melted chocolate, ensuring it's fully coated. Place the coated balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- While the chocolate coating is still wet, gently press a green candy gem onto each brownie ball to create the eyes. Add a small dot of melted chocolate on top of each gem to secure it.
- Refrigerate the brownie balls for at least 20 minutes to allow the chocolate to harden.
- Melt the white chocolate chips using a double boiler or microwave. Transfer the melted white chocolate to a piping bag or a small zip-top bag with a corner snipped off.
- Pipe concentric circles of white chocolate onto each brownie popper, mimicking a spiderweb. Using a toothpick, drag lines from the center of the circles outwards to create the spiderweb design.
- Chill the brownie poppers again until the white chocolate sets. Serve and enjoy!
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- For ultra-gooey centers, slightly underbake the brownie poppers and allow them to cool completely before decorating; this helps them hold their shape while maintaining a fudgy bite.
- If you want an extra crunch, fold in mini pretzel pieces or roasted chopped nuts into the batter for a salty-sweet twist.
- To make the cobweb decoration neater, pour melted chocolate into a small zip-top bag, snip a tiny corner, and pipe thin lines over the poppers before the chocolate hardens.
Expert Tips
- Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and melting consistency. Dark, semi-sweet, or milk chocolate all work well.
- Don't overmix the batter, as this can make the brownie poppers tough. Mix until just combined.
- Get creative with the decorations! Use different colored candy melts, sprinkles, or edible glitter to match any occasion.
Storage Instructions
- Store decorated brownie poppers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.
- Freeze undecorated poppers for up to a month. Decorate after thawing for best results.
