Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 2 cup Milk full cream (500 ml)
- 2 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
- 3 Tbsp Milk Chocolate 50 grams, compound or couverture (cooking chocolate)
- 1-2 Tbsp Sugar adjust to your preference
Optional Toppings
- 1 pinch Cinnamon ground
- 8-10 Marshmallows
Instructions
- Finely chop the milk chocolate. Alternatively, melt the chocolate in the microwave in 10-second bursts, stirring after each, until smooth. Set aside.
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat. A heavy bottom ensures even heating and prevents scorching.
- Once the milk comes to a simmer, reduce the heat to low. Whisk in the cocoa powder until it's fully dissolved and no lumps remain.
- Add the chopped or melted chocolate to the saucepan. Stir continuously until the chocolate is completely melted and incorporated into the milk.
- Add the sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, tasting after each addition, until the desired sweetness is reached.
To serve
- For an ultra-smooth hot chocolate, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into two mugs. This removes any lingering cocoa powder granules.
- If desired, sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon over each mug for a warm, aromatic touch.
- Top each mug with marshmallows.
- Serve immediately and enjoy the comforting warmth of your homemade hot chocolate.
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- Customize the flavor with alternatives like cinnamon powder, vanilla or peppermint extract, a dash of liqueur, or a pinch of allspice.
- Substitute marshmallows with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or chocolate ice cream.
- For a vegan version, replace milk with almond milk, cashew milk, coconut milk, or soy milk.
Expert Tips
- For a richer hot chocolate, use high-quality cocoa powder and dark chocolate.
- Adjust the sweetness to your preference by adding more or less sugar or sweetener.
- Garnish with a sprinkle of cocoa powder, cinnamon, or a few mini marshmallows for an extra touch.
Storage Instructions
- Store leftover hot chocolate in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave.
