Recipe Notes
Additional Tips
- For extra moisture and depth of flavor, try substituting half of the milk with brewed coffee or buttermilk—both enhance the chocolate notes and result in an even richer crumb.
- To create a surprise center, scoop out a small portion from the center of each cooled cupcake and fill with salted caramel, raspberry jam, or a spoonful of peanut butter before topping with frosting.
- If you prefer a vegan version, replace the milk with any plant-based milk and use apple cider vinegar in place of regular vinegar; also substitute granulated sugar with organic cane sugar to ensure it's vegan-friendly.
- Store unfrosted cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze them for up to 2 months—simply thaw and frost before serving for fresh-tasting treats anytime.
