Instructions

Preparation

  • Peel and core the apple and pear. Roughly chop into small, bite-sized pieces.

Caramelization

  • Heat butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the apple and pear pieces. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly softened.

Sweetening & Flavoring

  • Stir in coconut sugar, ground cinnamon (if using), and lemon juice. Continue cooking for another 5-7 minutes, or until the fruit is tender and the sugar has caramelized to a golden brown color. Stir frequently to prevent burning.

Cooling & Storage

  • Remove from heat and allow to cool completely. Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld. The caramelized fruit will thicken as it cools.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve as a topping for ice cream, yogurt, pancakes, or French toast. It can also be used as a delicious filling for crepes or sandwiches.

Recipe Notes

  • Adjust the amount of coconut sugar to your preference. If you prefer a less sweet result, start with 1 tablespoon and add more as needed.
  • Feel free to experiment with other fruits such as peaches, plums, or figs.
  • To make ahead, prepare the caramelized fruit a day or two in advance. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
