Aloo Bokra/Aloo Bukhara/Plum Chutney

Aloo Bukhra chutney is famous around chutney lovers. In Indian food culture chutney is always plays a big role. Aloo Bukhra is especially my favorite one,for its sweet and sour taste. It is very easy to made, with few ingredients sweet, tangy and spicy Aloo Bukhra chutney is ready to serve. It can be consume with roti or paratha or it is good as a sweet and sour dip.

  • 5 Aloo bukhara/ plum cut into small pieces
  • 1 dried red chilli
  • 1 tbsp mustard oil
  • 2 tsp panch fhoran cumin, caraway, fennel,fenugreek, mustard seeds
  • 2 cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp Salt


  • Heat oil in a pan. Add dried red chili and panch fhoran ,when it starts crackling, add Aloo Bukhara pieces. Stir for 2 minutes then add 1/2 cup of water and let it cook in medium flame until aloo bukhara is well cooked.
  • After aloo bukhara is soft and tender add red chili powder, turmeric powder,salt and sugar. Cook until all ingredients mix properly and consistency of chutney is thick.
  • Serve after it cool completely.


Choose ripe plums for making chutney.
