Ingredients
For the Ladoo
- 2 cup Coconut finely grated, fresh
- 1 cup Papaya finely grated, raw
- 2/3 cup Sugar granulated
- 3 tbsp Desiccated Coconut for rolling
- 1/4 tsp Cardamom Powder for added flavor, optional
Instructions
Prepare the Papaya
- Grate the raw papaya finely.
Cook the Mixture
- Heat a wide pan or wok over medium heat. Add the grated papaya and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly softened.
- Add the grated fresh coconut to the pan and mix well with the papaya. Continue stirring for another 2-3 minutes.
- Add the granulated sugar and cardamom powder (if using). Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture starts to come together. This will take about 5-7 minutes.
- Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until most of the moisture evaporates and the mixture becomes thick and easily forms a ball when squeezed.
Shape the Ladoos
- Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly, about 10-15 minutes. The mixture should still be warm but not hot.
- Grease your hands slightly with oil or ghee to prevent sticking. Roll the mixture into small, round ladoos.
- Spread the desiccated coconut on a plate. Roll each ladoo in the desiccated coconut to coat evenly.
Serve and Enjoy
- Serve the Coconut Papaya Ladoos immediately or store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Coconut Papaya Ladoos
- For a richer flavor, use fresh, high-quality coconut. The quality of the coconut directly impacts the taste of the ladoos.
- Adjust the amount of sugar to your preference. If your papaya is particularly sweet, you may need slightly less sugar.
- If the mixture seems too dry and difficult to roll, add a teaspoon of milk or water at a time until it reaches the desired consistency.
- For an extra festive touch, garnish the ladoos with chopped nuts or edible silver leaf before serving.
