Instructions
- Mix the sugar, liquids and yeast and wait 5 min for it to froth up. This shows that the yeast is live.
- Mix all the other ingredients for dough in a bowl -flour, flaxseed powder, salt, garlic, cheese. Then add the yeast solution and make a soft dough.
- Add just enough extra flour to make it comfortable to knead. Donot make it over dry. As you knead, the gluten will develop and it will become less sticky..In 7 to 8 min.
- Place in a n oiled vessel and cover with a damp cloth. Let it rise for 1 hour. It will double in volume.
- Then divide into 5 balls and add the required natural colouring agents to each balls ti form the green, pink, brown, yellow and orange bun doughs. Reserve some for the ears for each bun.
- Place in a long loaf tin and let rest in warm place for second proofing for 15 min. Then bake covered with a foil to avoid the top from browning, @180deg C for 20 min.
- Remove from oven n let them cool for 1/2 hour. You can add the features like eyes and nose with barbecue sauce as done in the image. The colourful slices will definitely make it interesting for a kids tiffin.
Recipe Notes
Additional Tips
- For the most vivid colors, use concentrated purees (spinach, beet, carrot) and powders (turmeric, cocoa) rather than juices—this will prevent the dough from becoming too wet and help the teddy shapes hold better during baking.
- If making ahead, wrap the cooled buns individually in parchment paper before storing in an airtight container to preserve both color and softness; reheat briefly in a low oven to refresh before serving.
- For a fun flavor twist, try stuffing the bun heads with a small cube of mozzarella or a spoonful of herbed cream cheese before shaping—this creates a delightful cheesy center that stays gooey after baking.
- To highlight the teddy features, brush the buns lightly with milk just before baking, then use black sesame seeds or edible food markers to add eyes and nose after cooling for an extra-cute finish.
