Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cup All-Purpose Flour also known as refined flour or maida
- 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Salt or to taste
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup Milk warm
- 2 tbsp Yogurt also known as curd
- 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil for brushing before cooking
Instructions
Prepare the Dough
- Combine warm milk, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a bowl. Mix well until the sugar and salt are dissolved.
- Add the milk mixture to the flour and yogurt. Mix until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add a tablespoon or two of water if necessary to reach the desired consistency.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for at least 3-4 hours, or until doubled in size.
Shape and Cook the Naan
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) or prepare a hot griddle or tawa.
- Divide the dough into 6-8 equal-sized portions. Roll each portion into an oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Heat a lightly oiled griddle or baking sheet. Cook each naan for 1-2 minutes per side, or until lightly browned and puffy. Alternatively, bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through. Brush with melted ghee or oil for extra flavor and softness.
- Serve the warm naan immediately with your favorite curries or dishes.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Naan
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of caraway seeds or nigella seeds to the dough.
- If your dough seems too dry, add a tablespoon of milk at a time until it reaches the right consistency. If too wet, add a tablespoon of flour.
- Don't overwork the dough; this can result in tough naan.
- For a crispier naan, cook it on a very hot griddle or baking sheet.
