Ingredients
For the Dough
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour also known as maida
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/4 cup Water lukewarm
- 2 tbsp Butter melted
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 2 clove Garlic minced, or 2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Active Yeast dry
- 1/2 tsp Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Oregano dried
- 1/2 tsp Pepper black
For the Filling
- 1 cup Cheese mozzarella, parmesan, or your favorite blend, shredded
- 1/2 cup Corn Kernels boiled or canned, cooked
- 2 tbsp Olives a mix of black and green olives, chopped
Optional
- 1 tbsp Semolina Flour for dusting the rolling surface
Instructions
Activate the Yeast
- In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup warm water, 1/2 tsp sugar, and 1 tsp yeast. Let stand for 10 minutes until foamy.
Prepare the Garlic-Herb Oil
- In a separate bowl, whisk together melted butter, olive oil, minced garlic, oregano, black pepper, and 1/2 tsp salt.
Make the Dough
- In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour and 1 tsp salt. Add the garlic-herb oil mixture to the flour mixture and mix well.
Combine and Knead
- Gradually add the activated yeast mixture to the flour mixture, kneading until a smooth, slightly sticky dough forms. Add a little more warm water if needed to achieve desired consistency. Knead for 10-12 minutes until the dough is elastic and smooth.
First Rise
- Form the dough into a ball, place it in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Filling
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a large circle or oval.
Assemble the Bread
- Spread half of the dough with shredded cheese, cooked corn, and olives. Top with the remaining cheese.
Fold and Seal
- Fold the other half of the dough over the filling, pressing gently to seal the edges. Pinch the edges to ensure a good seal.
Score and Brush
- Using a sharp knife, make several cuts across the top of the dough, being careful not to cut all the way through. Brush the top with the remaining garlic-herb oil mixture.
Second Rise
- Cover the stuffed bread and let rise for another 30 minutes in a warm place.
Bake
- Preheat your oven to 210°C (410°F). Place the bread in a greased baking dish and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Cover loosely with foil halfway through baking to prevent burning.
Cool and Serve
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool slightly on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for the Best Garlic & Cheese Stuffed Bread:
- For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese to the dough before the first rise.
- If your dough seems too sticky, add a tablespoon or two of flour at a time until it becomes manageable.
- Don't overbake the bread; it should be golden brown and cooked through, but not dry. Check for doneness around 15 minutes.
- Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days.
