Palak Hashi or Hasi (meaning Raw) is a everyday dish from the Uttara Karnataka homes. A very simple yet tasty raitha that can be had along with rice. I have prepared it using palak. This can prepared using any other veggies (boiled or raw).

  • Palak chopped - 500gms/ 2 cups packed
  • Onion - 1
  • Garlic - 3 to 4 pods
  • Curd - 1 cup
  • Mustard- 1tsp
  • Urad dal - 1 tsp
  • Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Green chilly - 2
  • Red chilli powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Water - as required
  • Salt

  • Clean and chop Palak. Stem also can be chopped. Chop onion and garlic. Add all these to a saucepan with a little water, chilli powder and salt and let it cool until tender.
  • In a blender, take coconut and green chillies. Grind it to make a smooth paste.
  • Once the palak is cooked and cooled, add coconut paste and curd. Mix well until combined.
  • Splutter mustard and urad dal. Add it to the palak gravy. An easy and simple side dish for a week day lunch or dinner is ready.

Raw veggies also can be made use of. Traditionally it is the raw vegetables that are used. Because it is palak, I have boiled it to tender.
Any veggies/ leafy vegetables can be used.
You can make it even more spicier adding more green chillies.
You can use either sour or sweet curd.
