  • 250 gm Chana Dal bengal
  • 1 Onion grated
  • 2 leaves Coriander chopped
  • 2 tbsp Coconut grated dry
  • 2 leaves Coriander chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Green Chillies chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp Black Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds or jeera, or seeds jeera seeds
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida or hing hing
  • 8 leaves Curry
  • 1-2 tsp Salt or as per taste
  • Oil for frying


  • Wash and soak chana dal for 4 - 5 hours.
  • Add 1 - 2 tbsp water and grind coarsely.
  • Take a bowl add chana dal paste,onion,coconut,green chilly,garam masala powder,salt and coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Take one tsp oil in a pan.
  • Add black mustard seeds,cumin seeds and asafoetida to crackle.
  • Add curry leaves and switch off the gas and mix in the chana dal paste.
  • Shape each ball to vada.
  • Dip fry in hot oil and drain in paper napkin.
  • Serve hot with tea.
