Ingredients
For the Ladoo
- 250 gm Cottage Cheese fresh, high-quality store-bought paneer., homemade indian cottage cheese. can be substituted with firm
- 125 ml Milk sweetened condensed milk. you can adjust the amount to your liking depending on desired sweetness., condensed
- 1 tsp Cardamom Powder finely ground cardamom powder. freshly ground cardamom provides the best flavor.
- 2-3 drops Rose Essence rose water can be substituted, adjust quantity to taste.
- 1/4 cup Pistachios chopped or sliced for garnish
- 13.5 strands Saffron Strands optional; soak in 1 tablespoon of warm milk for 10-15 minutes to enhance color and flavor, or use saffron extract.
Optional additions
- 2 tbsp Ghee clarified butter, for added richness (optional)
Instructions
Prepare the Paneer
- Grate the fresh paneer using a grater until it's finely textured and smooth.
Combine Ingredients
- In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat the condensed milk over medium-low heat. Add the grated paneer and stir continuously to prevent sticking.
Cook the Mixture
- Add the ghee (if using), cardamom powder, and rose essence. Continue stirring until the mixture thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan. This usually takes about 10-15 minutes. Make sure to continuously stir to prevent burning.
Cool and Shape
- Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool completely. Once cooled, the mixture will be firm enough to handle. Roll the mixture into small, bite-sized balls (ladoos).
Garnish and Serve
- Garnish the ladoos with the saffron strands (if using) and chopped pistachios. Serve and enjoy your delicious Malai Ladoo!
