Ingredients
For the Dabeli Filling
- 1 cup Potato boiled and mashed
- 1/2 Onion finely chopped
- 2 tbsp Dabeli Masala available in asian stores
- 2 tbsp Oil
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp Lime Juice
- 2 tsp Sugar
- 4 tbsp Peanuts roasted
For the Tacos
- 4 Taco Shells
- 1/4 cup Coriander chopped
- 2 tbsp Pomegranate Seeds
- 2 tbsp Chickpea Noodle indian chickpea flour noodles, or tortilla strips
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 4 minutes, or until softened.
- Add a pinch of salt and the sugar to the onions. Continue to sauté until the onions caramelize slightly, creating a rich sweetness.
- Add 1 tablespoon of Dabeli masala to the onions and stir well to coat. This spice blend is key to the authentic Dabeli flavor.
- Add the mashed potatoes to the pan and mix thoroughly with the spiced onions. Then, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of Dabeli masala, the sugar, and lime juice. Stir well to combine all the flavors.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the potato mixture simmer for a few minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Stir in the chopped cilantro and roasted peanuts.
- Warm the taco shells according to package directions. This usually involves microwaving them for a short time to make them pliable.
- Fill each taco shell with a generous spoonful of the Dabeli potato mixture, spreading it evenly.
- Garnish the Dabeli tacos with extra roasted peanuts, pomegranate seeds, and sev or tortilla strips for added crunch and visual appeal.
