Instructions

Prepare the Potato & Pea Filling

  • Heat mustard oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add diced potatoes, peas, and ginger. Sauté for a few minutes. Add red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook until heated through.

Cool and Finish the Filling

  • Remove from heat and let the potato mixture cool completely. Stir in fresh coriander and chaat masala. Gently mash the potatoes to a slightly coarse consistency.

Assemble the Bread Rolls

  • Lightly dip each bread slice in water and squeeze out excess water. Place a spoonful of potato filling in the center of each bread slice. Roll tightly into a cylindrical shape. Gently smooth out any cracks to prevent breakage during cooking.

Rest the Rolls

  • Arrange the assembled bread rolls on a plate and refrigerate for 10 minutes to allow them to firm up. This prevents them from absorbing too much oil during air frying and helps them become crispier.

Air Fry the Rolls

  • Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F) for 5 minutes. Arrange the bread rolls in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Air fry at 180°C (350°F) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.

Serve

  • Serve the warm, crispy bread rolls immediately. Enjoy them with tomato ketchup, coriander chutney, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips for Perfect Bread Rolls:

  • For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of garam masala to the potato filling.
  • If you don't have an air fryer, you can bake the rolls in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Use thick-cut bread for best results; thinner slices might break easily.
  • Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
