Instructions

Prepare the Dal Batter

  • Whisk together moong dal flour, salt, red chili powder, ajwain, and baking soda in a bowl. Gradually add water, whisking constantly until a smooth, pourable batter forms. Set aside.

Prepare the Bread Slices

  • Cut two slices of bread into circles using a cookie cutter or a knife. From the remaining two slices, use the same cutter or knife to cut out rings, leaving the center hole.

Assemble the Pakoras

  • Dip each bread circle into the dal batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Top each circle with a bread ring to create the double decker shape.

Air Fry the Pakoras

  • Lightly grease an air fryer basket with oil. Arrange the assembled pakoras in the basket, ensuring they aren't overcrowded. Air fry at 180°C (350°F) for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy, flipping halfway through.

Garnish and Serve

  • Remove the pakoras from the air fryer and let them cool slightly. Garnish the center hole of each pakora with a mixture of pomegranate seeds, rice puffs, and chopped onions. Serve hot with your favorite chutney.

Expert Tips for Perfect Dal Double Decker Bread Pakoras

  • For extra crispy pakoras, let the batter rest for 15-20 minutes after mixing before dipping the bread.
  • Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket; work in batches for even cooking and optimal crispiness.
  • Adjust the air frying time depending on your air fryer's power and the thickness of the bread slices.
  • Experiment with different garnishes! Try finely chopped cilantro, grated coconut, or even a sprinkle of chaat masala for added flavor.
