Ingredients
For Marinating the Prawns
- 1/2 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste for marination, freshly made
- 1 tbsp Chili Powder adjust to your spice preference
- 1 tsp Turmeric Powder haldi
- 1 tsp Cumin Powder jeera
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 1 tbsp Lemon Juice freshly squeezed
- 2 tbsp Yogurt also known as curd, plain
- 1.5 tsp Salt or to taste
- 500 gm Prawns peeled and deveined
For the Prawn Masala
- 2 tbsp Oil vegetable or coconut oil
- 1 tsp Mustard Seeds rai
- 1 Onion finely chopped, large
- 3 Chili adjust to taste, finely chopped, green
- 2 sprigs Curry Leaves
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder haldi
- 1/2 tsp Cumin Powder jeera
- 1 Tomato finely chopped, large
- 1.5 tsp Salt or to taste
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 1/2 cup Water
Instructions
Marinate the Prawns
- Combine the prawns with ginger-garlic paste, chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, garam masala, lemon juice, yogurt, and salt. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 30-60 minutes, or longer for a more intense flavor.
Sauté Aromatics
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add finely chopped onions, green chilies, and half of the curry leaves. Sauté until onions become translucent.
Add Spices and Tomatoes
- Add turmeric powder, cumin powder, and chili powder. Sauté for about a minute until fragrant. Add the chopped tomatoes and fry until they become soft and mushy.
Simmer and Finish
- Pour in 1/2 cup of water. Stir in the remaining curry leaves and garam masala powder. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook for 5-10 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly. Remove from heat.
