Marinate the Prawns

  • Marinate the prawns with 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder and salt. Set aside for 20-30 minutes.

Prepare the Masala Paste

  • In a blender, combine cumin seeds, coriander seeds, black peppercorns, ginger, garlic, green chili, and one onion. Add 1/2 cup water and blend into a smooth paste.

Fry the Prawns

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan. Fry the marinated prawns for 1 minute over medium heat. Remove and set aside.

Sauté Aromatics

  • Add the remaining oil to the pan. Add bay leaves and cumin seeds; sauté for a few seconds. Stir in turmeric powder and red chili powder.

Build the Curry

  • Add the prepared masala paste and sauté for 3-4 minutes on low-medium heat. Add chopped tomatoes and cook for 4-5 minutes. Add 1/2 cup water, bring to a boil.

Simmer and Serve

  • Add the fried prawns and salt. Cover and simmer for 4-5 minutes. Stir in garam masala and coriander leaves. Remove from heat and serve hot.
