How To Make Simple Syrup

Sugar syrup is otherwise known as simple syrup. It is as simple as it sounds to make and this sweetened syrup comes in handy while making any drinks and beverages, ranging from fresh fruit juice, cocktails, mock tails to ice coffee / tea, milk etc.
It is essential syrup that can be stocked up in your kitchen for months. They add good volume to your drinks and beverages.
General ratio of the simple syrup is 1:1 (Sugar: water) respectively. You can as well double the quantity of sugar to achieve rich simple syrup. This syrup is made using organic sugar and water giving it a nice brown color.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Sugar organic
  • 1 cup water

Instructions
 

  • In a saucepan, bring the water to boil.
  • Dissolve sugar in boiling water by stirring frequently.
  • Once the sugar is dissolved, simmer the flame and allow this liquid to boil for 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Keep stirring in regular intervals.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and turn off the stove.
  • Allow the syrup to cool completely and by now the syrup would have thickened slightly.
  • Store it in a glass container and enjoy with your favorite drink.

Notes

  1. Organic sugar is slightly golden brown in color; hence the syrup seen is brown in color. You can replace this with white sugar to avoid coloration in the syrup.
  2. Do not allow the syrup to boil for a long time otherwise the syrup will be too thick once it cools.
  3. You can try using coconut sugar or palm sugar also of you like the nutty flavor of these sugars.
  4. Add spices like ginger / mint leaves / cardamom / clove / cinnamon to make flavored simple syrup. These flavors enhance the taste and aroma of your drinks.
