A tall glass of cool refreshing lemonade is one of the best natural drinks one can reach out for during those scorching summer afternoons. There is something about this timeless classic that makes it equally appealing to all age groups. The ones made from freshly squeezed lemons are always the best . But when combined with fresh herbs, the infusion of novel flavors takes it to yet another level. It is easy to make, relatively inexpensive and gets ready in a jiffy. The trick lies in keeping some simple sugar syrup ready at all times.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 10-12 fresh lemons
  • A few sprigs of Mint/Thyme/Basil
  • A jug of chilled water
  • Ice-cubes

  • Take sugar and water in (1:1 ratio) in a saucepan.

  • Let it simmer till it dissolves completely.

  • Keep aside till it cools down completely. The syrup can be bottled up and refrigerated for 1-2 months.
  • In the meanwhile, cut the lemons into halves.
  • Use a squeezer to extract the juice. This makes the task easier and also removes the irksome seeds.

  • To Assemble the lemonade - Add lemon juice, mint leaves and chilled water to the serving glasses. (Use a muddler to crush the herbs and infuse their natural oils into the water)
  • Stir in the sugar syrup and adjust the level of sweetness.
  • Lastly, add the ice-cubes just before serving the Lemonade.

Notes

  • Lemons will yield more juice if immersed in a bowl of warm water for 5-10 mins before juicing them.
  • Fresh lemon juice can be bottled up and stored for 2-3 days in the refrigerator.
