Ingredients
 

Spices & Aromatics

  • 1 medium Onion finely chopped
  • 2 medium Tomatoes finely chopped
  • 1 cup Peas fresh or frozen, green
  • 2 tbsp Oil vegetable oil or ghee
  • 1 tbsp Coriander chopped, for garnish

Instructions
 

Prepare the Peas

  • Wash and soak 1 cup of dried green peas for 6-7 hours or overnight. Drain well.
  • Pressure cook the peas with sufficient fresh water, a pinch of turmeric, and salt for 4-5 whistles or until tender. Allow to cool.

Sauté the Aromatics

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan. Add 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds and allow them to crackle. Add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds and sauté until light brown.
  • Add 2 green chilies (finely chopped), 1 medium onion (finely chopped), and sauté briefly.

Add Tomatoes and Spices

  • Stir in 1 tablespoon of ginger-garlic paste and cook for a minute. Add 2 medium tomatoes (finely chopped) and cook until softened.
  • Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp coriander powder, 1/4 tsp red chili powder, and salt to taste. Mix well.

Combine and Simmer

  • Add the cooked green peas and mix gently. Add a little water if needed and simmer for 4-5 minutes on low heat.
  • Stir in 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala.

Garnish and Serve

  • Remove from heat and garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with rotis, chapatis, or naan.
