For the Savory Batter

  • 2 cup Multigrain Dosa Batter farmz2familiez brand recommended, or your favorite brand
  • 1 tsp Oil vegetable or canola oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds also known as rai
  • 1/2 tsp Gram black, split black gram
  • 1 sprig Curry Leaves finely chopped
  • 1 Chili adjust to your spice preference, finely chopped, green
  • 1 Onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger finely chopped
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida also known as hing
  • 1 tsp Coriander also known as dhania, finely chopped
  • 1 Tomato finely chopped
  • 1.5 tsp Salt or to taste

Instructions
 

Prepare the Savory Batter

  • Trim the bread edges and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and wait until they sputter. Add urad dal and fry until golden brown.
  • Add curry leaves, green chili, onion, ginger, and asafoetida. Sauté for 2-3 minutes.
  • Stir in coriander and mix well.
  • Transfer the tempering to the dosa batter. Add salt and mix thoroughly. This seasoned batter is ready for the French toast.

Cook the French Toast

  • Heat a non-stick pan or tawa and add a few drops of ghee or oil.
  • Dip one side of a bread slice into the batter.
  • Place the dipped bread on the hot pan and toast until golden brown.
  • Spoon more batter onto the bread, top with finely chopped tomatoes and coriander. Carefully flip.
  • Drizzle ghee or oil around and on top. Toast until golden brown and crispy.
  • Repeat with remaining bread slices.
  • Serve hot and crispy with tomato ketchup or chutney.
