Ingredients
Bread
- 6-7 slices Bread
Filling
- 1/2 cup Vegetables finely chopped, mixed
- 1 tsp Ginger Paste
- 1 tsp Garlic chopped
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1/2 tsp Chili Powder
- 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1 Tbsp Oil
- Salt to taste
- 1-2 Chilies chopped, green
Instructions
- Remove the crusts from the bread slices and set aside.
- Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic and ginger paste. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the mixed vegetables, turmeric powder, chili powder, cumin seeds, and chopped green chilies to the pan. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, until the vegetables are slightly softened.
- Season with salt. Cover the pan and cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Remove from heat and let the filling cool to room temperature.
- Lightly dampen each bread slice with water. This helps to make it pliable for shaping.
- Place a spoonful of the cooled vegetable filling onto the center of a dampened bread slice.
- Bring the edges of the bread together to form a sealed pocket or ball. Gently press to secure the filling inside.
- Lightly brush an appam maker (or a non-stick pan) with oil and heat over medium-low heat.
- Place the filled bread appam in the heated appam maker. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve the Atta Bread Appam hot with tomato sauce or chutney. These are also great for packing in a lunchbox.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips
- For a richer flavor, consider using bone-in chicken thighs instead of boneless, skinless breasts.
- Adjust the spices to your liking. If you prefer a spicier dish, add more chili powder or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- Don't overcrowd the pan when browning the chicken. This will ensure the chicken cooks evenly and gets a nice crust.
Storage Instructions
- Store leftover chicken and sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
