Parboiled Rice & Green Gram Dal Conjee

Conjee is very comforting and soothing recipe during summers. It is pretty easy and straightforward to make and the water in the conjee helps you to stay hydrated as well. This conjee is made using parboiled rice(puzhungal arisi) and green gram dal(Pachai payiru). It is mildy spiced with garlic and peppercorns with the benefits of cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds. This is one of the best dishes to have during summer. Beat the heat with this healthy, easily digestible and nutritious conjee.

Ingredients
- ¾ cup parboiled rice
- ¼ cup green gram dal
- 5 garlic pods chopped
- 6 – 7 pepper corns
- 1 teaspoon cumin seed
- ¼ to ½ teaspoon fenugreek seeds
- 7 curry leaves
- Salt
- ¼ teaspoon ghee optional
- 2 tablespoon chopped onion shallots preferably

Instructions
- Wash and soak rice and dal together for one hour.
- Bring water to boil.
- Add soaked rice and dal.
- Allow it to come to one boil.
- Add salt, garlic, pepper corns, cumin seeds, curry leaves and fenugreek seeds.
- Cook until the rice and dal turns soft and are completely cooked.
- Do not strain the water.
- Mix ghee if desired.
- Add grated coconut and onions.
- Serve as it is or with coconut thuvaiyal / tomato chutney.
Notes
Adjust water according to the consistency required by you.
