Ingredients
Khoya Peda Ingredients
- 1 cup Mawa also known as mawa
- 1/2 cup Sugar granulated
- 2 tbsp Ghee
- 3-4 Cardamom Pods finely ground, green
- 1/4 cup Pistachios finely chopped, for garnish
- 1/4 cup Almonds finely chopped, for garnish
Instructions
Prepare the Ingredients
- Crumble the khoya into small pieces. Remove the seeds from the cardamom pods and finely grind them. Powder the sugar.
Cook the Khoya
- Heat 1 tablespoon of ghee in a non-stick pan over low heat. Add the crumbled khoya and stir for 1 minute until it starts to soften.
Add Sugar and Cardamom
- Add the powdered sugar and ground cardamom to the khoya. Mix well, ensuring the sugar is evenly distributed. Continue stirring over low heat.
Thicken the Mixture
- Keep stirring continuously until the mixture thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan. This will take approximately 7-8 minutes. Low heat is crucial to prevent burning.
Finish and Cool
- Once the mixture is thick and most of the moisture has evaporated, remove it from the heat. Spread the mixture onto a plate to cool completely.
Shape and Garnish
- Lightly grease your hands with ghee. Divide the cooled mixture into small, equal-sized portions. Roll each portion into a ball and gently press down to flatten slightly. Garnish with chopped pistachios and almonds.
Serve and Store
- Serve your Khoya Peda immediately or store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

- Quality Khoya: Use good quality, fresh khoya for the best flavor and texture. Brown khoya is traditionally used but you can use white if preferred.
- Low and Slow: Cooking the khoya on low heat is essential to prevent burning and to allow the mixture to properly thicken. Patience is key!
- Adjust Sweetness: Adjust the amount of sugar according to your preference. Start with the given amount and add more if you prefer a sweeter peda.
- Creative Garnishes: Experiment with different nuts and seeds for garnishing. Silver leaf or edible food coloring could be interesting additions.
