Ingredients
Rice and Paneer
- 2.5 cup Basmati Rice rinse thoroughly before use
- 100 grams Cottage Cheese indian cottage cheese, cubed
Aromatics and Spices
- 1 medium Onion finely chopped
- 1 medium Tomato finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Ginger-Garlic Paste
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder haldi
- 1 tsp Chili Powder adjust to your spice preference, red
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 1 pinch Asafoetida hing (optional)
Other Ingredients
- 1.5 tsp Salt or to taste
- 1 tbsp Oil vegetable or ghee
- 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds rai
- 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds jeera
- 2 tbsp Coriander dhania, for garnish
- 3 cup Water or as needed for rice
Instructions
Preparation
- Rinse the basmati rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear.
- Heat oil in a pan or pot over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds; let them splutter.
- Add asafoetida (if using) and sauté briefly.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for another minute until fragrant.
- Add chopped tomatoes and sauté until softened.
- Stir in turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook for a minute, stirring constantly.
- Add the cubed paneer and sauté for 2-3 minutes until lightly browned.
- Add the rinsed basmati rice and sauté for 2 minutes, stirring well to coat the rice with the spices.
- Pour in 3 cups of water (adjust as needed depending on rice and desired consistency). Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
Serving
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh coriander leaves. Enjoy with raita or a side salad.
