Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 180 gm All-Purpose Flour
- 0.5 tsp Salt
- 20 gm Sugar granulated
Leavening Agent
- 2 gm Active Yeast dry
Coating & Frying
- 200 ml Vegetable Oil for frying (or enough for baking)
- 2 tbsp Cinnamon ground
- 50 gm Sugar for coating, granulated
Instructions
Activate the Yeast
- Activate the yeast by combining 2 tbsp warm water, 1 tsp sugar, and the yeast in a small bowl. Stir well, cover, and let stand for 10 minutes until frothy.
Combine Wet Ingredients
- In a saucepan, gently warm the milk. Stir in the melted butter, sugar, beaten egg, and the activated yeast mixture. Mix thoroughly.
Make the Batter
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add the wet ingredients, mixing until a thick batter forms (similar in consistency to vada batter). Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Coating
- In a shallow dish, combine the ground cinnamon and 50g of granulated sugar.
Fry or Bake the Doughnuts
- For frying: Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-low heat. Carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown and cooked through, turning occasionally. For baking: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Drop spoonfuls of batter onto the baking sheet, leaving space between each doughnut. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Coat and Serve
- Once the doughnuts are cooked, immediately roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture while they are still warm. Serve warm and enjoy!
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Cinnamon Sugar Doughnuts
- Use fresh yeast: Old yeast may not activate properly, resulting in flat doughnuts.
- Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing develops the gluten, leading to tough doughnuts. Mix just until combined.
- Control the oil temperature: For frying, maintain a consistent medium-low heat to ensure even cooking and prevent burning.
- Get creative with coatings: Experiment with different flavor combinations, such as powdered sugar, chocolate glaze, or a maple-cinnamon blend.
