Ingredients
Bananas
- 4 Banana preferably cavendish, ripe
Frying & Garnish
- 3 tbsp Butter unsalted
- 2 tbsp Coconut desiccated, unsweetened
- 1 scoop (optional) Vanilla Ice Cream for serving
Instructions
Preparation
- Slice the bananas lengthwise, but not all the way through; leave them slightly attached at the bottom to create a “book” effect.
Caramelization
- Heat the butter in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Once melted, add the powdered sugar and ground cinnamon. Stir for a few seconds until the sugar begins to melt and create a light caramel.
Frying the Bananas
- Add the sliced bananas and desiccated coconut to the pan. Gently fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until the bananas are golden brown and slightly caramelized. Be careful not to burn the sugar.
Serving
- Serve the fried bananas immediately. For an extra decadent treat, top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Fried Bananas
- Use ripe but firm bananas for the best results. Overripe bananas will be too mushy.
- Adjust the amount of powdered sugar to your liking. If you prefer a less sweet dish, reduce the amount.
- For a richer flavor, use brown butter instead of regular butter.
- Experiment with other spices, such as nutmeg or cardamom, to create your own unique flavor combinations.
