Ingredients
Chicken & Marinade
- 250 gm Boneless, Chicken Breasts skinless
- 1 Egg
- 2 tbsp Milk or buttermilk for extra tender chicken
- 1/2 tsp Salt
Dry Coating
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour also known as maida
- 1 tbsp Chili Powder
- 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/2 tsp Pepper black, or to taste
- 1/2 tsp Salt to taste
Crunchy Coating
- 1 cup Corn Flakes crushed
Frying
- Vegetable Oil for deep frying
Instructions
Prepare the Chicken
- Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces.
Make the Egg Wash
- In a bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and salt.
Marinate the Chicken
- Add the chicken to the egg wash, ensuring it's fully coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes (longer is better!).
Prepare the Dry Coating
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly.
Crush the Corn Flakes
- Crush the corn flakes into smaller pieces using a food processor or by placing them in a zip-top bag and crushing with a rolling pin.
Bread the Chicken
- Dredge each piece of marinated chicken in the flour mixture, ensuring it's fully coated. Then, coat with the crushed cornflakes, pressing gently to adhere.
Fry the Chicken
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the breaded chicken pieces, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry in batches until golden brown and cooked through (about 6-8 minutes).
Drain and Serve
- Remove the cooked chicken with a slotted spoon and place on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Popcorn Chicken
- Don't overcrowd the pan: Frying in batches ensures even cooking and prevents the chicken from steaming instead of crisping.
- Use a thermometer: Maintaining the correct oil temperature is crucial for achieving crispy chicken. A thermometer ensures consistent results.
- Let the chicken rest: Allowing the chicken to rest on a wire rack after frying helps maintain its crispiness and prevents it from becoming soggy.
- Get creative with seasonings: Experiment with different spice blends to create your own unique flavor combinations.
