Instructions

Prepare the Dough

  • Combine flour, salt, and vegetable oil in a bowl. Gradually add water, mixing until a soft, pliable dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rest for at least 30 minutes.

Prepare the Filling

  • Heat oil in a pan. Add finely chopped onions and saute until translucent. Add garlic and ginger paste and saute for another minute. Add finely chopped cabbage, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and soy sauce (if using). Saute until cabbage is tender but still slightly crisp.

Assemble the Momos

  • Roll out the dough into thin circles (about 3-4 inches in diameter). Place a spoonful of the cabbage filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape, pleating the edges to seal. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.

Steam the Momos

  • Steam the momos for 12-15 minutes, or until cooked through. You can use a steamer basket or a pot with a steamer insert.

Prepare the Dipping Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together vinegar, tomato ketchup, and green chili sauce. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Serve

  • Serve the steamed momos hot with the dipping sauce. Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips for Perfect Momos

  • For extra flavor, add a teaspoon of sesame oil to the dough.
  • Don't overcook the cabbage filling; it should be tender-crisp.
  • For a richer dipping sauce, add a tablespoon of soy sauce or a squeeze of lime juice.
  • Experiment with different fillings! Mushrooms, carrots, or potatoes all work well.
