About Spinach Paratha for Kids Tiffin

A soft whole wheat paratha made by kneading spinach right into the dough - a different technique from the stuffed parathas earlier in the plan, with a milder, earthier flavour that works well for introducing greens.
Served with curd and a piece of fruit for a complete, gentle tiffin.

Instructions

Preparing the Dough

  • Combine whole wheat flour, spinach, cumin seeds and salt in a bowl. Add water gradually - spinach releases some moisture, so you may need less water than usual.
  • Knead into a soft dough. Cover and rest for 10 minutes. Divide into 2 equal portions.

Making the Parathas

  • Roll each portion into a thin to medium circle, dusting with flour as needed to prevent sticking.
  • Heat a tawa on medium heat. Cook the paratha, flipping and spreading a little ghee on both sides, until golden brown spots appear on each side. Repeat for the second paratha.

Packing

  • Let the parathas cool slightly. Pack with curd in a separate small container and fruit on the side.

Recipe Notes

Tiffin Pairing

Curd and a piece of fruit balance the earthy flavour of the spinach paratha.

Make-Ahead Tip

Puree or finely chop the spinach the night before and store it covered in the fridge - the dough itself is best kneaded fresh.

Quick Swap

Use grated bottle gourd or grated carrot instead of spinach if your child prefers a milder flavour or if spinach isn't available.

Allergen Note

Contains wheat/gluten (whole wheat flour).

Packing Tip

This paratha stays naturally soft thanks to the spinach and is easy to eat even after a few hours - no special handling needed beyond the usual cooling before packing.
