Ingredients
Tea Base
- 1 1/4 tsp Darjeeling Tea Leaves
- 2 cup Water
- 2 tbsp Sugar or honey
Strawberry Jalapeño Mixture
- 1/4 cup Strawberries chopped
- 1 Jalapeño Pepper chopped, large
- 4-5 Lime Slices
Garnish
- Mint Or Rosemary Sprigs fresh, to taste
Instructions
- Chop the strawberries and jalapeño pepper. Place them in a large pitcher or jar.
- In a saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat.
- Remove from heat and add the Darjeeling tea leaves. Cover and steep for 5 minutes. Steeping for longer can make the tea bitter.
- Strain the tea directly into the pitcher with the strawberries and jalapeño. Add the lime slices.
- Let the tea cool to room temperature. Then, refrigerate for 1-2 hours to allow the flavors to meld.
- Fill serving glasses with ice. Pour the chilled tea over the ice.
- Garnish with fresh mint or rosemary sprigs and a few strawberry slices. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- Do not allow the tea leaves to steep in the hot water for more than 5 minutes, as this can make the tea taste bitter.
- For a spicier kick, lightly muddle the jalapeño slices before adding them to the tea. Remove the seeds for a milder heat level.
- For a refreshing cold version, chill the brewed tea and serve it over ice with muddled strawberries. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary for extra aroma.
- Infuse the water with a small sprig of rosemary while brewing for a more complex flavor. Be sure to strain it out before serving to avoid bitterness.
- Use honey or agave syrup instead of sugar for a different sweetness that complements the strawberries and earthy tea notes.
Expert Tips
- Experiment with different types of tea, such as green tea or white tea, to create unique flavor profiles.
- Adjust the sweetness and spice levels to your preference. Start with less and add more until you achieve the desired balance.
- For a visually appealing presentation, use clear ice cubes made with filtered water. This will prevent the ice from clouding the tea.
Storage Instructions
- Store leftover tea in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. The flavor may change slightly over time as the ingredients continue to infuse.
