Ingredients
For the Tea
- 2 Tea Bags black tea recommended
- 2 cup Water
- 2 tbsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
For the Fruity Ice Cubes
- 1/2 cup Water
- 4 Strawberries sliced
- 1/2 Orange sliced
- 4 Mint Leaves
For the Iced Tea
- 1 cup Orange Juice freshly squeezed
- 1 1/2 cup Ice Cubes
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely to create a simple syrup.
- Add the tea bags to the simple syrup. Remove from heat, cover, and steep for 5 minutes to extract the full tea flavor. This steeping process allows the tea to infuse the syrup evenly.
- Remove the tea bags and stir in the lemon juice. Set aside to cool completely.
- Prepare the fruity ice cubes by arranging sliced strawberries, orange slices, and mint leaves in an ice cube tray. Fill the tray with water and freeze until solid.
- In a pitcher, combine the cooled tea mixture, freshly squeezed orange juice, and plain ice cubes.
- Add the fruity ice cubes to the pitcher. Gently stir to combine.
- Pour into glasses and serve immediately. Garnish with additional fruit slices or mint sprigs, if desired.
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- For a visually striking presentation, freeze slices of citrus fruits and whole berries into your ice cubes. These not only keep your tea cold longer but also subtly infuse extra flavor as they melt.
- To avoid dilution, brew a small batch of extra-strong tea and use it to make “tea ice cubes”.
- If you prefer a less sweet beverage, replace sugar with honey or jaggery syrup, adding it while the tea is still warm to ensure it dissolves fully.
- For an adult twist, add a splash of gin or vodka; the botanicals in gin, in particular, pair wonderfully with the citrus and berry notes in this iced tea.
Expert Tips
- Adjust the sweetness and tartness to your liking by varying the amount of sugar and lemon juice.
- Experiment with different types of tea, such as green tea or herbal infusions, for unique flavor profiles.
- Muddle fresh herbs like mint or basil into the iced tea for an added layer of freshness.
Storage Instructions
- Store leftover iced tea in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Be sure to remove any fruit or ice cubes before storing to prevent dilution.
