Recipe Notes

Expert Tips for Perfect Upma

  • Roast the semolina: For a richer flavor, dry roast the semolina in a pan for a few minutes before adding it to the water. This helps enhance its nutty flavor.
  • Adjust water consistency: The amount of water needed might vary depending on the type of semolina you use. Start with the given amount and adjust if necessary to achieve your desired consistency, from dry to slightly moist.
  • Spice it up!: Feel free to experiment with adding other spices, such as turmeric powder, ginger, or asafoetida for an additional flavor boost.
  • Vegetable variations: Add finely chopped vegetables like carrots, peas, or beans for a more nutritious and flavorful Upma. Add them along with the onions.
