Instructions

Prepare the Broken Wheat

  • Dry roast the broken wheat in a pan over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until lightly browned and fragrant.

Sauté Aromatics and Vegetables

  • Heat ghee in a pressure cooker or large pot. Add mustard seeds and urad dal. Once the seeds splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes, carrots, and potatoes. Stir well and sauté for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened.

Add Spices and Cook

  • Stir in turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.

Add Broken Wheat and Liquids

  • Add the roasted broken wheat to the vegetable mixture. Pour in the milk and water. Mix well, ensuring all ingredients are combined.

Pressure Cook

  • Close the lid and cook for 4-5 whistles (or until the broken wheat is cooked through). If using a pot, cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the broken wheat is tender.

Finish and Serve

  • Once the pressure is released, gently stir in the ghee and dried fruits (if using). Serve hot as a delicious and nutritious breakfast or brunch.
