Ingredients
For the Ladoo
- 1.5 cup Cottage Cheese crumbled
- 1/3 cup Sweetened Milk condensed
- 2.5 drops Rose Essence
- 1 tsp Ghee clarified butter
For Coating
- 2 Tbsp Desiccated Coconut
Instructions
- Crumble the paneer into a bowl. Mash it thoroughly with your hands until it is soft and smooth. This ensures a uniform texture for the ladoo.
- Transfer the mashed paneer to a non-stick pan or kadai.
- Add the sweetened condensed milk to the pan. Whisk together the paneer and condensed milk until they are well combined.
- Turn the heat to medium. Add the ghee and rose essence to the pan. Stir continuously to prevent sticking and burning.
- Continue cooking for 8-10 minutes, stirring constantly. The mixture will thicken and start to pull away from the sides of the pan as the moisture evaporates. This indicates that the ladoo mixture is ready. Remove from heat.
- Transfer the mixture to a plate and let it cool for 5-7 minutes. Once cooled slightly, knead the mixture briefly until smooth.
- Place the desiccated coconut in a separate plate. Add 2 drops of rose essence to the coconut and mix well. This enhances the rose flavor and aroma of the ladoo. Roll the paneer mixture into small balls. Then, roll each ladoo in the coconut mixture until evenly coated.
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- You can make these laddos without rose essence or use any flavor of your choice.
- For a lovely pink color, add a few drops of natural beetroot juice or pink food coloring. Beetroot provides a subtle earthy note that complements the rose flavor without overpowering it.
- If you prefer a creamier texture, pulse the paneer in a food processor before mixing it with the other ingredients to eliminate any graininess.
- For an elegant presentation, press a dried rose petal or a sliver of pistachio into the top of each laddoo before rolling them in coconut powder.
Expert Tips
- For a richer flavor, lightly toast the desiccated coconut before using it to coat the laddos.
- If the mixture is too dry and crumbly, add a teaspoon or two of milk or melted ghee to help it bind together.
- These laddos are naturally gluten-free and can be easily adapted to be vegan by substituting the paneer with vegan cream cheese or thick coconut cream.
Storage Instructions
- Store the laddoos in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Allow them to come to room temperature before serving to enhance the rose aroma and flavor.
