Ingredients
For the Amla Paste

- 1 cup Sugar
- 2 tbsp Cumin Seeds roasted
- 1/2 cup Mint Leaves
- 1/2 tsp Salt black, or regular salt to taste
Instructions
- Boil the Indian gooseberries (amla) until softened. This helps release their vibrant flavor and makes them easier to blend.
- Once the gooseberries are cool enough to handle, carefully remove the seeds. Discard the seeds.
- In a blender or food processor, combine the deseeded gooseberries, sugar, roasted cumin seeds, mint leaves, and black salt. Blend until a smooth paste forms.
- To serve, add 2 teaspoons of the amla paste to a small glass. Fill the glass with water. Stir well until the paste is fully dissolved and enjoy!
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- This amla paste can be frozen and used to make refreshing drinks whenever you like, especially during the summer.
- For a tangy twist, add a few fresh mint leaves while blending the amla for a cooling effect and refreshing aroma.
- For a vegan or low-calorie version, replace sugar with coconut sugar, jaggery, or stevia.
- Make a sparkling party beverage by topping the amla drink with chilled soda water and a lemon slice.
Expert Tips
- Adjust the sweetness and water content to your liking depending on how tart or sweet you prefer your drink.
- Amla can be slightly bitter, so start with a smaller amount and gradually increase until you find the perfect balance for your taste.
- If you don't have fresh amla, you can use amla powder, but adjust the quantity as needed and strain the mixture well to remove any fibrous residue.
Storage Instructions
- Store leftover amla paste or concentrate in an airtight glass jar in the refrigerator for up to one week.
