- 1/2 cup Fruits almonds, cashews, chopped dates; adjust to your preference, dried, mixed, such as raisins
- 3/4 cup Sugar adjust to your preferred sweetness
- 1/4 tsp Cardamom Powder optional, for added flavor
Instructions
Prepare the Moong Dal
- Rinse the moong dal thoroughly under cold water. Soak the dal in 2 cups of water for at least 3-4 hours, or preferably overnight.
Cook the Moong Dal
- Drain the soaked dal. Add it to a pressure cooker with 1/2 cup of water. Pressure cook for 10-12 minutes or until the dal is completely soft and cooked.
Roast the Dal and Make the Halwa

Add Sweetener and Flavorings
- Reduce heat to low. Add the sugar and stir well until it dissolves completely and the mixture thickens slightly. Stir in the cardamom powder (if using) and mixed dried fruits. Continue to cook and stir until the halwa reaches your desired consistency and the ghee separates visibly.
Serve
- Remove from heat and let the halwa cool slightly. Serve warm or at room temperature. Garnish with extra dried fruits or nuts if desired.
