Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 2 cup Rice avalakki, thick variety of flattened rice. soak in water for 5 minutes before use.
- 1/2 cup Chickpea adds a nice nutty flavor and texture., roasted, split
- 1/4 cup Peanuts adds richness and crunch. lightly crush before adding., roasted
- 2-3 tsp Puliyogare Masala store-bought or homemade.
- 1 tbsp Tamarind Paste adjust to your preferred level of tartness.
Seasoning & Flavor Enhancers
- 1 tbsp Oil vegetable or coconut oil.
- 1 string Curry Leaves
- 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds for added flavor., optional
- 1/4 tsp Gram black, for added texture., optional
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
Instructions
Preparation
- Soak the poha in water for 5 minutes, then drain well.
Tempering
- Heat oil in a pan or kadai. Add mustard seeds (if using) and urad dal (if using). Let them splutter.
- Add curry leaves and sauté briefly until fragrant.
Combining Ingredients
- Add the roasted chana dal and peanuts. Sauté for a minute.
- Stir in the puliyogare masala and tamarind paste. Sauté for another minute, until fragrant.
Finishing Touches
- Add the drained poha and salt. Mix gently to combine everything evenly.
- Add a splash of water if needed to adjust consistency, making sure not to over-wet the poha.
Serving
- Serve hot. Garnish with fresh coriander (optional).
