Instructions

Preparing the Batter

  • This recipe assumes dosa batter is already fermented and ready to use. If you don't have batter on hand, prepare it the night before, or use a store-bought batter.

Preparing the Filling

  • If adding a potato filling, mash the boiled potato with mustard seeds, turmeric, salt and coriander leaves. This step is optional - plain mini dosas also work well.

Making the Mini Dosas

  • Heat a small tawa on medium heat and grease lightly with oil. Pour a small ladleful of batter and spread into a mini circle, about the size of your palm.
  • Cook until the edges lift and the base turns golden, flipping briefly if needed. Repeat to make 3 to 4 mini dosas.

Rolling and Packing

  • Spread a little of the potato filling, if using, on each mini dosa and roll into a log. Pack the rolls in the tiffin box with chutney in a separate small container and fruit on the side.

Recipe Notes

Tiffin Pairing

Chutney and a piece of fruit round out the mini dosa rolls into a complete, easy-to-eat tiffin.

Make-Ahead Tip

Dosa batter needs to ferment overnight, so this recipe relies on batter made in advance. The potato filling can also be prepared the night before.

Quick Swap

Skip the potato filling entirely for plain mini dosas rolled with just chutney - a quicker option on busy mornings.

Allergen Note

Dosa batter is rice and lentil based and generally gluten-free, but check the label if using a store-bought batter.

Packing Tip

Rolling the dosas while they are still slightly warm makes them easier to shape without cracking.
