Ingredients
For the Pizza Burger Filling
- 1 tsp Olive Oil
- 2 cup Bell Peppers sliced (green and yellow)
- 2 Chilies green, sliced into rounds
- 200 gm Cottage Cheese cubed
- 3 tbsp Tomato Ketchup
- 1/2 tsp Salt or to taste
- 1 tsp Oregano dried
For the Burger Assembly
- 2 Burger Buns
- 1 cup Cheese shredded, such as mozzarella or cheddar
- 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup Ketchup
- 1/2 cup Tomatoes sliced
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise and ketchup. This will be your burger sauce.
- In another small bowl, combine all the dried herbs and spices for the oregano seasoning. Gently crush them together to release their aroma.
- Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced bell peppers and green chilies. Sauté for about 30 seconds until they begin to soften.
- Add the cubed paneer to the pan. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the paneer is lightly browned.
- Stir in the dried oregano, salt, and tomato ketchup. Mix well to coat the paneer and vegetables. Remove from heat.
- Slit the burger buns in half. Spread the mayonnaise-ketchup mixture on both sides of each bun. Sprinkle a layer of shredded cheese on the bottom halves.
- Top the cheese with the paneer and vegetable filling, followed by a layer of sliced tomatoes. Add another layer of shredded cheese and sprinkle with the homemade oregano seasoning.
- Place the top halves of the buns on the burgers. Using a toothpick or skewer, poke a few small holes in the top of each bun. This allows steam to escape during baking and prevents a soggy burger.
- Lightly brush the tops of the buns with olive oil and sprinkle with more of the homemade oregano seasoning.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) for 4-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the buns are lightly toasted.
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- For an extra melty center, tuck a small cube of mozzarella or processed cheese inside the paneer filling before assembling the burger—this will give a classic “cheese pull” effect when bitten into.
- To infuse the buns with even more pizza flavor, brush them lightly with garlic-infused olive oil and a sprinkle of oregano before toasting; this will make each bite taste reminiscent of garlic bread.
- If you prefer a crispier texture, briefly grill the assembled burger (wrapped in foil) for 2-3 minutes in a sandwich press or hot pan, which will melt the cheese and crisp up the bun edges.
- For a vegan version, substitute paneer with firm tofu and use vegan cheese; make sure your burger buns are dairy-free as well.
Expert Tips
- Get creative with your pizza toppings! Add chopped bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, or even jalapenos to the paneer mixture for extra flavor and texture.
- Don't overcook the paneer. It should be lightly browned and heated through, but not dry or rubbery.
- Serve your pizza burgers with a side of marinara sauce or pizza dipping sauce for an even more authentic pizza experience.
Storage Instructions
- Store leftover pizza burgers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a microwave or oven until warmed through.
