Ingredients
For the Jackfruit
- 250 gm Jackfruit boiled
For the Marinade
- 1 1/2 tsp Salt or to taste
- 2 tsp Lemon Juice
For the Batter
- 1/2 cup Gram Flour besan
- 1/2 cup Rice Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 2 tsp Chili Paste green
- 2 tsp Ginger Paste
- 2 tsp Honey
- 1 tsp Cumin roasted powder
- 1 tsp Coriander roasted powder
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon ground
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric
- 1 Tbsp Oil hot
- 1/2 cup Water or as needed
For Frying
- 1 cup Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- Marinate the boiled jackfruit with salt and lemon juice. This enhances the flavor and helps the batter adhere better.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the Bengal gram flour, rice flour, baking powder, green chili paste, ginger paste, honey, roasted cumin powder, roasted coriander powder, turmeric powder, 1 tablespoon of hot oil, lemon juice, and salt.
- Gradually whisk in water until a smooth batter forms. The batter should be thick enough to coat the jackfruit.
- Heat the oil for deep frying in a large pot or deep fryer. The oil is ready when a small drop of batter sizzles and floats to the top.
- Dip each piece of marinated jackfruit into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated.
- Carefully drop the battered jackfruit into the hot oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding and ensure even cooking.
- Fry the fritters until they turn a beautiful golden brown and are crispy. This usually takes about 3-5 minutes.
- Remove the fritters from the oil with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve the Honey-Kissed Jackfruit Fritters hot, accompanied by green chili sauce and a drizzle of honey salsa.
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- If using fresh jackfruit, lightly oil your hands and knife before handling to prevent the sticky sap from adhering.
- For a crispier texture, fry the coated jackfruit pieces in small batches in hot oil (around 350°F/175°C) to prevent them from becoming soggy.
- To make this recipe vegan, substitute honey with date syrup or maple syrup.
- For an extra tangy kick, sprinkle amchur (dried mango powder) or fresh lime juice over the finished dish.
Expert Tips
- For a richer flavor, marinate the jackfruit in your chosen sauce for at least 30 minutes before cooking.
- Don't overcrowd the pan when frying the jackfruit; this will lower the oil temperature and result in oily, less crispy pieces.
- Experiment with different spices and seasonings in your coating, such as smoked paprika, garlic powder, or onion powder.
Storage Instructions
- Store leftover jackfruit in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat in a pan over medium heat or in the oven at 350°F (175°C) until warmed through.
