About Grilled Lemon Garlic Butter Prawns Recipe

This recipe delivers succulent grilled prawns swimming in a luscious lemon garlic butter sauce – a dish so easy, it's ready in under 30 minutes! The prawns are grilled with their shells on for maximum flavor and moisture, although you can remove the heads if you prefer. I personally love the delightful snap of a grilled prawn head!
The secret lies in a quick marinade that infuses the prawns with vibrant garlic, lemon, and herbs. Then, a simple yet decadent lemon butter sauce ties it all together, creating a dish that's perfect for a weeknight meal or a special occasion.
Prepare to savor every bite and every last drop of that incredible sauce! It's unbelievably delicious.

Instructions

Prepare the Prawns

  • Clean the prawns thoroughly under cold running water. Devein if desired, by making a small slit along the back and removing the dark vein. Optional: Thread prawns onto skewers for easier handling and even grilling.

Marinate the Prawns

  • In a bowl, combine melted butter, lemon juice, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Add the prawns to the bowl, ensuring they are well coated in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 1 hour.

Prepare the Lemon Butter Sauce

  • While the prawns marinate, prepare the sauce. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in lemon juice, parsley, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until slightly thickened. Set aside.

Grill the Prawns

  • Preheat your oven's broiler or grill pan to high heat. Place prawns on a broiler pan lined with foil or on a grill pan. Brush lightly with vegetable oil. Broil or grill for 5-7 minutes per side, or until pink and opaque, being careful not to overcook.

Serve

  • Remove the prawns from the grill and transfer to a serving dish. Drizzle generously with the lemon butter sauce. Garnish with lemon wedges and extra parsley. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips for Perfect Grilled Lemon Garlic Butter Prawns

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade.
  • Don't overcrowd the grilling pan; this will ensure even cooking and prevent steaming.
  • For a richer sauce, use clarified butter instead of regular butter.
  • If you don't have fresh parsley, dried parsley will work in a pinch, but use a smaller amount (about 1/3 the fresh amount).
