Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 4 cup Whole Wheat Flour atta, whole
- 2 cup All-Purpose Flour maida
- 1 1/2 tsp Yeast instant
- 1 tbsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
Instructions
Combine Dry Ingredients
- Combine whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, yeast, salt, and garlic powder in a large bowl.
Activate Yeast
- Add honey and softened butter to the dry ingredients. Pour in warm water and mix with an electric mixer on low speed for 1 minute, scraping the bowl frequently. Increase speed to medium and beat for another minute, scraping frequently.
Incorporate Flour
- Gradually add more all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough is easy to handle.
Knead the Dough
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 40-60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Buns
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 8-12 equal-sized balls. Roll each ball into a smooth, slightly elongated bun shape. Seal the ends and tuck them under. Place seam-side down on a baking sheet.
Second Rise
- Brush the buns with melted butter and sprinkle with dried herbs. Cover and let rise for another 35-50 minutes, or until doubled.
Bake the Buns
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
Cool and Serve
- Remove from baking sheet and let cool completely on a wire rack before serving. Brush with remaining melted butter.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Tea Time Buns
- Use a kitchen thermometer to ensure your water is the correct temperature for activating the yeast. Too hot will kill the yeast, too cold will hinder its activation.
- For extra flavor, add a tablespoon of finely minced fresh garlic to the dough along with the garlic powder.
- If your dough seems too dry, add a tablespoon of water at a time until you reach the desired consistency. Too sticky? Add a tablespoon of flour.
- Don't overbake the buns! They should be golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom. Begin checking for doneness around the 35-minute mark.
