Ingredients
Wraps
- 6 leaves Lettuce
Filling
- 2 tsp Oil
- 2 tsp Garlic finely chopped
- 1 tsp Ginger finely chopped
- 1/4 cup Spring Onions chopped, white and green parts
- 1/4 cup Mushrooms chopped
- 1/4 cup Carrot finely chopped
- 1/4 cup Cabbage finely chopped
- 1/4 cup Bean Sprouts
Sauce
- 1/2 tsp Lemon Juice
- 1 tsp Soy Sauce
- 1/4 tsp Pepper Flakes red
- 1 1/2 tsp Salt or to taste
Instructions
- Wash and thoroughly dry the lettuce leaves. Set aside.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the garlic, ginger, and spring onions. Sauté until the onions are translucent, about 2-3 minutes. This builds a flavorful base for the filling.
- Add the mushrooms, carrots, and cabbage to the skillet. Sauté for 2-3 minutes, until slightly softened.
- Stir in the bean sprouts, lemon juice, soy sauce, red pepper flakes, and salt. Sauté for another minute to combine the flavors.
- Remove the filling from the heat and let it cool slightly.
- Divide the filling into 6 equal portions.
- To assemble the wraps, place a lettuce leaf on a flat surface. Spoon a portion of the filling onto the leaf. Top with chopped peanuts and basil.
- Gently fold the sides of the lettuce leaf over the filling and roll it up tightly. Secure with a toothpick, if desired. Serve immediately.
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- Wash the lettuce leaves well and let them dry on a towel for at least 2 hours before assembling the wraps. Wet lettuce will make rolling difficult.
- For extra crunch and protein, add toasted cashews or peanuts to the vegetable filling.
- For a heartier wrap, include finely chopped baked tofu or tempeh in the filling.
- To prevent soggy wraps, pat the lettuce leaves dry and assemble just before serving. Alternatively, serve the filling and lettuce separately for a DIY wrap bar.
- Garnish with black and white sesame seeds and fresh basil or cilantro for added flavor and visual appeal.
Expert Tips
- If using large lettuce leaves, like romaine or butter lettuce, trim the thick rib at the base to make rolling easier.
- Get creative with your fillings! Consider adding shredded carrots, bell peppers, cucumber, sprouts, or other favorite vegetables.
- For a flavorful sauce, whisk together peanut butter, soy sauce, lime juice, and a touch of honey or maple syrup.
Storage Instructions
- It's best to enjoy these wraps fresh. If you have leftovers, store the filling and lettuce separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Assemble just before serving to prevent sogginess.
