Ingredients
Rice
- 1 bowl Basmati Rice cooked, cooled
Aromatics and Herbs
- 2 Tbsp Garlic finely chopped
- 3 Tbsp Celery finely chopped
- 3 bulb Spring Onions finely chopped, white parts
- 1/4 cup Spring Onions finely chopped, green parts
- 1/2 cup Parsley finely chopped, fresh
- 2 tsp Thyme dried
- 1 tsp Oregano dried
Seasoning and Sauce
- 3 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 2 tsp Pepper Powder white
- 1 1/2 tsp Salt or to taste
- 1 Tbsp Chili Flakes
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a wide pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chopped celery and sauté for about a minute until slightly softened.
- Add the chopped garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds. This releases the garlic's full flavor.
- Add the chopped parsley, dried thyme, and dried oregano to the pan. Toss quickly to combine with the aromatics.
- Season with salt and chili flakes. Toss to distribute the spices evenly.
- Add the soy sauce to the pan. The soy sauce will add umami and depth of flavor.
- Gently add the cooled basmati rice to the pan. Toss everything together until the rice is well-coated with the herbs, spices, and sauce. Be careful not to overmix, which can make the rice mushy.
- Sprinkle with white pepper powder for a touch of heat. Garnish with the chopped green parts of the spring onions. Serve the herbed fried rice immediately while hot.
Recipe Notes
Good To Know
- For extra fragrance and color, add a handful of finely chopped fresh basil or cilantro along with the parsley at the very end of cooking.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, add a few thinly sliced fresh green chilies or a pinch of red chili flakes when sautéing the garlic.
- For the best texture, use rice that’s been cooked and chilled for at least a few hours (ideally overnight).
- For a protein boost, stir in pan-fried tofu cubes or shredded rotisserie chicken during the final minutes of stir-frying.
Expert Tips
- Don't overcrowd the pan when stir-frying the rice. Work in batches to ensure each grain gets crispy.
- For a richer flavor, use a combination of oils, such as sesame oil and vegetable oil, for stir-frying.
- Taste and adjust seasonings throughout the cooking process, adding more soy sauce or salt as needed.
Storage Instructions
- Store leftover fried rice in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat in a skillet over medium heat, adding a splash of water or broth to prevent drying.
