Ingredients
Rice
- 1 cup Basmati Rice aged
Seasoning
- 1 tsp Salt or as per taste
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
Garnish
- 1/2 cup Coriander chopped
Instructions
- Wash the basmati rice thoroughly under cold running water. This removes excess starch and helps achieve fluffy, separated grains.
- Combine the rinsed rice, 2 cups of water, and salt in a pot. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the rice is cooked through but still has a slight bite. Check the rice occasionally to ensure it's not sticking to the bottom.
- Drain any excess water from the cooked rice using a fine-mesh strainer. Gently rinse the rice with cold water to stop the cooking process and further remove starch. This helps prevent the rice from becoming mushy.
- Spread the rice on a plate or baking sheet to cool and air dry slightly. This ensures each grain remains separate and fluffy.
- Heat ghee or vegetable oil in a separate pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds until fragrant. Be careful not to burn them, as this will impart a bitter taste.
- Add the cooked rice to the pan with the cumin seeds. Gently stir to combine, ensuring the rice is evenly coated with the oil and cumin flavor. Heat through for a minute or two.
- Garnish the Jeera Rice with freshly chopped coriander. Serve hot alongside your favorite Indian dishes or enjoy it as a simple, flavorful meal on its own.

Storage Instructions
- Store leftover jeera rice in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat thoroughly before serving.
